Canadian Army Service records information:
Francis was born in Matlock, Derbyshire, on the 11th August, 1892. He enlisted in Toronto, Ontario, 24th December 1914, stating that he was employed in the waterworks, and his next of kin as Helen Mary Slack, of General Delivery, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He had previously served in the 4th Field Battery of the Militia.
He was five feet eleven inches in height, had a fair complexion, grey eyes and fair hair, and belonged to the Church of England. He had one vaccination mark on his left arm.
